Vulnerable Patients in need of additional help

Posted on April 9th, 2020

As you are aware The NHS have identified a cohort of patients who are considered to be at ‘Very High Risk’ and they have been sent a letter which informs them that:

  • The NHS has identified them or the named person they care for, as someone at risk of severe illness if they catch Coronavirus.

This cohort of patients who we refer to as ‘shielded’ have been told to stay at home for at least 12 weeks and if they have no other support to get food and medicine, to register for help either via the website www.gov.uk/coronavirus-extremely-vulnerable or call 0800 028 8327, the Government’s dedicated helpline.

Once registered, the patients details are sent directly to the Local Authorities who are arranging support which may include emergency food supplies and help with prescription deliveries. Patients who have received this letter MUST register for help via the link or number above.

In Cheshire, more than 5,500 additional patients have now been added to this list. They will be required to follow the same process.

There are, however, other people who are classed as vulnerable and would who would benefit from self-isolation such as those over 70 with long-term conditions. If people in this group are in need of help with shopping and prescriptions then they will have to register their need via these local helplines:

  • Cheshire West – 0300 123 7031 (8am-7pm 7 days a week)
  • Cheshire East – 0300 123 5034 (9am-5pm 7 days a week)

Please note these people WILL NOT be eligible for emergency food or priority shopping slots due to them not being included in the shielded cohort but could receive help from a local band of willing volunteers registered with both councils.
